Founded with its first station in Layo back in 2011, Layo Teraga has now grown to have 3 different collection sites, 1,814 members, and its own export license, which it uses to focus on finding long term buyers committed to supporting them year over year. By establishing these long-term relationships, the organizers at Layo can afford to invest in the health and prosperity of their surrounding local communities. This includes building roads, classrooms for the local kids, and a new project that hopes to provide clean drinking water to the community. This lot is from their Layo Site 2, a station known for tightly controlled processing techniques for naturals. This cup explodes right away into intense jammy blackberry flavors, fresh mulberry, and a very crisp/tart hibiscus linger. As the cup cools, some tropical fruits like pineapple and mango begin to show. Ethiopian Naturals have a very special place in my heart as some of the first truly "wow" experiences I had with specialty coffee, and this one takes me right back to that.
