Kenya Gatagua Muranga AA Washed

Region: Murang'a, central Kenya 

Producers: 845 smallholders delivering cherry to the Gatagua Factory 

Varietal: Sl28 & SL34

Process: Washed, floated and sorted for ripeness and density, depulped, fermented in water for 48 hours, then washed and soaked in water again for 12 hours, dried for 14-21 days

Tasting notes: Guava, Lime Zest, Jasmine

Roaster Notes: 

BC3.5 Drum - I was extremely stoked and a little nervous to roast this coffee, as it's my first ever Kenyan. Putting the common advice of "blast it with heat and then crash it late" into practice, I charged this coffee with lots of energy and kept as much heat on it as I could, until adjusting the flame low and letting it hit a strong crack, dropping with about 25 seconds of development. The end result is a cup with huge guava up front, clear and bright lime zest, that cools into a beautifully delicate fistful of flowers.
